Our world is evolving and changing, your life is not the same as it was 10 years ago. Technology alone has changed it let alone the choices you made. You only have to look at the phone you use now compared to the one you used ten years ago. Look at the growth and decline of the different social media platforms we use, to see that the landscape is constantly changing. The world is in a profound season of new alignments, realignments and connections with resources to prepare storehouses for coming harvest and global shaking.

One of the areas where we will be challenged is in emotional stability. You and I will need to know that your own actions, fears, insecurities, if not recognised and dealt with in a healthy way will determine our success and our  business and personal success depends on your willingness to adapt to those changes.

When a caterpillar finally comes out of its cocoon, and has transformed into a totally new identity, we must realise that not only did the caterpillar transfer but so did the cocoon in readiness for the transformation of the one it was holding!

So, lets ask, how flexible are you in business? How flexible to change are you in your personal life? Are you willing to bend, make changes, do u-turns and stretch or are worried you or your business break?

Lets look at the two-fold benefit of being malleable or supple. The first is that it gives you the ability to see the changes that are happening around you and secondly it  enables you to take the action needed to make adjustments when they are needed.

Whether your clients are mainly on a social media platform, and you constantly need to adapt your prices and/or products, or your children are flying the coup or you are in the process of moving home… being flexible is the key to your business and personal success.

Here are two keys to help you adept to whatever situation you find yourself in:

1) Learn to listen

Listening is a key part of learning to be flexible – especially in business. Listen to what your customers are saying, and very importantly pay attention to the trends in your particular niche and be open to new ideas.

Do you keep a track on your social media platform? Where are your followers coming from and what are their age bracket and are you targeting your posts to cater for your target market?

Do you have a strategy in place to get customer feedback? Do you follow the latest news and innovations happening in your business?

If you don’t have a way of getting essential feedback from your customers, you are missing a valuable opportunity to improve your business and create new products. Listening to your market allows you to easily change your business model, create new offerings and be open to new ideas.

2) Keep an open mind

Being flexible in business also involves keeping an open mind. Once you have the input of your customers and those around you, you then have to be open to new possibilities. Ask how something can be worked out or solved, rather than sticking to what you know.

Ask ‘what if?’ or ‘how can this work?’ rather than ‘I can’t’.

Be open to innovation, learn new technology no matter what your age!

We have to be open to reinvent ourselves as our life and business evolves.

Keeping an open mind is also a great way of moving forward yourself. Regularly pushing yourself from your comfort zone allows you to grow and evolve… both as an individual and a businessperson.

3) Be willing to act

Flexibility may be the key, but it will get you nowhere if you are unwilling to act. We must not only ‘say’ were willing, the key is we must be willing to adjust and modify and work on what needs changing; compile an action plan to implement the changes you need to make… and then take action. This should be done on a daily and weekly basis. Every Monday you track where and how last week went, emotionally, your goals and your finances

The ability to adjust, both in business and your personal life, will help to ensure you continue to grow and expand. It enables you to be proactive, rather than reactive in all your decisions… and will ensure both your business and personal successes are firmly in your own hands.

Are you flexible in both business and your personal life? Was one easier for you than the other? What strategies do you have in place to ensure you always remain flexible? Please share your thoughts and leave a comment and tell us how you have navigated adjustments in your life.
